The town of St. Veit, which has been awarded the Mobility Week Prize, is offering a new app that rewards users with shopping vouchers!

An idea that is unique in Austria is being implemented in the ducal city - with the help of the ummadum app. Anyone who covers environmentally friendly kilometers on foot, by bike or demonstrably via carpooling is rewarded with money for the City Card.

Becoming climate neutral
"We have set ourselves ambitious goals and want to become climate neutral by 2040. That's why we are happy to give a little something extra for the efforts of our citizens," says Mayor Martin Kulmer. After all, his city has received the Austrian Mobility Week Award 2023. "This award reflects that our efforts are paying off," adds city councillor Walter Brunner. René Schader from the startup "ummadum": "All it takes is a smartphone, where the app can be downloaded for free, and joining the St. Veit community." Those who register receive ummadum points for every kilometer they walk. These can be redeemed for City Cards at the public library."

The city of St. Veit wants to massively reduce greenhouse gases. "That's why we want to reward our citizens for sustainable mobility," says Kulmer.

Three pillars
The measures are based on three pillars, namely energy, buildings and mobility. For example, in addition to the existing photovoltaic power plants, further systems are to be installed on public buildings. "Our goal is to supply the majority of our city with energy produced by solar power," says the city boss. This also includes the indoor swimming pool, public schools and much more. The same applies to the climate-active refurbishment of municipal buildings. This can reduce heat loss and also produce less CO₂. Among other things, energy is already being saved in the area of mobility. This includes e-vehicles, which can be used by the city manager and his employees. Car sharing is also very popular. "The model is working very well for us," says Kulmer.

Austrian Mobility Week Award
The wide range of energy-efficient measures have been in place in St. Veit for a long time. In collaboration with KEM Sonneland Mittelkärnten, the ducal town has won the Austrian Mobility Week Award 2023 in the category "Towns and municipalities with over 10,000 inhabitants". This prize was presented by Federal Minister Leonore Gewessler in Vienna last week.

The municipality impressed the jury with its extensive program during last autumn's Mobility Week and with the creation of the climate neutrality roadmap.
