Styrian finally wants peace: “I didn’t kill!”

47 years after the murder of a money letter carrier in Knittelfeld, Styria, the accused at the time breaks his silence out of despair.

It was a bloodbath that stretched from the entrance of an apartment building in Knittelfeld's Schulgasse to the basement on December 2, 1975. At least one perpetrator had targeted the popular local letter carrier, struck him down with several blows to the head and robbed him of 80,000 schillings. The terrible story is well known. However, the perpetrator has still not been caught. At the time, however, a 17-year-old secondary school pupil was targeted by the police. Walter Nickl, as the 66-year-old is known today, stood before a jury a year later.
