An international mathematics competition will take place on April 19. In addition to Tyrol, other federal states are also represented. Last year's Austrian winners came from Innsbruck.

Who are the best at mathematics? The answer to this question will be revealed on April 19. On this day, the international mathematics competition called "Náboj" will take place. It has been held regularly in several countries since 2005. "The teams compete in two categories: Juniors and Seniors. The junior category is open to teams whose members are not in the last or penultimate year of secondary school. In the senior category, the teams can be made up of any number of pupils from the same school," the organizers state on the homepage.

The teams consist of a maximum of five pupils from one school. The entire competition lasts exactly two hours.

Six tasks that also require a lot of creativity
Within this time, the participants have to solve as many tasks as possible. Each team is given six tasks. As soon as one task is solved, the next one must be tackled. "The tasks require a certain amount of ideas and ingenuity. The solutions to the tasks are usually numerical values. The team that has solved the most tasks correctly in the allotted time wins at the end."

According to the organizers, the tasks are chosen so that "they are suitable both for high school students who are inexperienced in mathematical competitions and for high school students who already have experience with Mathematical Olympiads".

Bringing the beauty of mathematics closer
The basic idea behind "Náboj": apart from promoting imagination and logical thinking, the aim is to bring people closer to the "infinite beauty of mathematics". The competition is organized by Alexander Glazman from the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Innsbruck, among others. From Tyrol, pupils from Landeck to St. Johann are taking part. School classes in Graz, Linz, Villach and Vienna are also taking part.

Last year, the Akademisches Gymnasium Innsbruck came first in Austria.
