A10: State tinkers with new barriers
There are currently no restrictions for people escaping traffic jams on the Tauernautobahn. This is because the regulation for the exit closures ended on April 1st.
Since Tuesday, the exit closures on the Tauernautobahn are no longer in force. Now travelers can once again escape the construction site traffic jam onto the provincial roads unhindered. "There are no more exit barriers because the legal basis for them is now missing," says the office of Transport Minister and Provincial Vice-President Stefan Schnöll (ÖVP). A new regulation is needed to reintroduce the exit restrictions. This should be ready in time for the many public holidays and therefore travel days from 8 May.
It is not yet clear what the measures will look like. But the state is also aware that on busy travel days, hardly any means are sufficient to keep traffic on the Tauern freeway. This has been clearly seen again in recent weeks and the residents of the A10 neighboring communities have felt it. A circumstance that leaves everyone dissatisfied. "Unreasonable", is the word from the regional council office.
