Bloody deed in Vienna: Man stabs homeless man
A 49-year-old homeless man was discovered with stab wounds and cuts on Mariahilfer Strasse in Vienna on Sunday night. A man (50) is said to have stabbed him. The suspect was arrested by the police - he had almost three per mille in his blood!
It was shortly after midnight when the officers came across the injured man. Two knives - which could have been the murder weapon - were also found near the victim.
Had the victim's property with him
"A 50-year-old man from Hungary was arrested", Vienna police said on Sunday. He is also said to have been sleeping on the street and had injuries to his face and cuts to his hands. The 50-year-old was unable to give any precise details about the incident, but had items belonging to the victim with him - including his rucksack. He claimed to have been attacked by a stranger in his sleep.
Suspect had almost three per mille
In the meantime, the 49-year-old victim received emergency medical treatment from the Vienna Professional Rescue Service and was taken to hospital. "There is currently no danger to life", the police said. The suspect was less cooperative: a breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol level of 2.8 per mille! He was unable to comment on the victim's injuries.
"The victim has not yet been questioned," said the police. The Vienna State Office of Criminal Investigation, Central Branch, has taken over the further investigation.
