Young high-flyer
Five-year-old accepted into gifted club
A five-year-old from Monument in the US state of Colorado has recently joined a special group of people: Jacob Young has been accepted into the Mensa gifted club. He scored in the top one percent in the intelligence test, which lasts several hours.
Jacob Young is part of a military family - his father Joshua works in the Space Force and his mother Renee is a data analyst. He is actually interested in similar subjects to boys his age, such as airplanes, sharks, space and the Titanic. Unlike his schoolmates, however, the clever boy wants to know in detail how airplanes work and which species of shark are the fastest. This can sometimes pose a challenge for his parents.
"He watches documentaries with us. He loves the History Channel," Renee told US media. "The conversations are similar to those you might have in a high school or college class, but they take place with our five-year-old at the dinner table."
Boy to meet like-minded people in club
His parents had his intelligence quotient and giftedness tested by a doctor. He then told his parents about the Mensa association for gifted children. The doctor recommended that this could be a great way to help him meet like-minded people and challenge him outside of the school environment.
In the club's test, which lasted several hours, the boy scored in the top one percent. The youngest member in the USA is Kashe Quest, who joined Mensa in 2021 at the age of two with an IQ of 146.
