“If I can’t have you, no one can”

Police officers stood in Steyr's castle park with assault rifles at the ready - sending walkers away. Many wondered what was behind it - the "Krone" asked and the answer: a jealous Steyr man was about to go crazy and his beloved called the police.

Once again it was offended male pride and once again a woman was threatened with death. A major police operation in the Schlosspark area of Steyr caused quite a stir on Thursday. Heavily armed police officers asked passers-by to leave the park.

The "Krone" asked what was going on. The answer: In the afternoon, a 30-year-old man from Styria suddenly pulled out a gun during a WhatsApp call with his 38-year-old sweetheart. With the words "If I can't have you, then no one can have you", he loaded the gun. The woman immediately ended the conversation and called the police.

The police set off in search of the suspect, who was initially thought to be in the area of the park, but was then apprehended in Harratzmüllerstraße. The 30-year-old had his weapon, a deceptively real-looking gas pistol, with him.
