Eagle attacked girl – mother rescued daughter

In the Norwegian region of Tröndelag, a little girl almost fell victim to a golden eagle. The bird of prey attacked the child and injured her head until her mother was finally able to free her from the eagle's clutches. 

Head injury and scars
According to the father, the 20-month-old daughter was playing in the family yard when the eagle appeared. The girl's mother quickly intervened, fought with the bird of prey and managed with difficulty to save her daughter. A neighbor also came to the rescue. The child suffered a head injury, which required stitches, and scratches to her face, according to "n-tv".

Golden eagle "aggressive": animal shot
The golden eagle was shot after the incident. Hunting warden Per Kare Vinterdal explained that the eagle had regarded the child as prey. Despite the efforts of the mother and the neighbor to fend off the bird with sticks, the eagle kept returning.

An ornithologist described the eagle's behavior as extremely unusual. The attack on the child was particularly striking, as the bird of prey was a young bird that had not yet started hunting. The expert suspected that the golden eagle may have been suffering from an illness that explains its aggressive behavior.
