Vorarlberg man (15) dies after falling into manure chute

Sad news from Germany: on August 15, a 15-year-old from Vorarlberg fell into a manure shaft. The teenager, who was completing an internship at a farm, was resuscitated but lost the fight for his life. 

The tragic accident took place on August 15 in the municipality of Aulendorf, north of Ravensburg (Baden-Württemberg), not far from the border with the German state of Baden-Württemberg. A 15-year-old from Vorarlberg was working on a slurry pipeline on a farm there when he suddenly fell into the shaft and lost consciousness.

A 41-year-old woman tried to help him and also fell into the shaft. She also lost consciousness. Both were rescued from the shaft, resuscitated on site and taken to hospital.

Almost two weeks later, the young man, who had been on the farm as part of an agricultural internship, has now lost his fight for life, as the German authorities announced. The 41-year-old is still receiving medical treatment and the police are investigating how the accident could have happened.
