Drinking and driving: Driver crashes into carport
Alcohol and excessive speed were the undoing of a 22-year-old Slovenian on the Loibacher Landesstraße near Unterort on Friday evening.
The 22-year-old was driving on the L133 at around 8 p.m. with two other occupants, a 19-year-old Slovenian in the passenger seat and a 19-year-old Bosnian woman in the back seat. "In a slight right-hand bend between St. Georgen and Unterort, the car left the road due to excessive speed," said the police, describing the course of the accident. It crashed into a carport and a car parked underneath it."
The young Slovenian was seriously injured - his two passengers fared only slightly better. "The co-driver sustained minor injuries to his right arm and the woman sustained minor injuries to her back," said the police. The ÖAMTC C11 rescue helicopter was called out for the driver and flew the 22-year-old to Klagenfurt Hospital, while the ambulance took the two 19-year-olds to the hospital.
"A breathalyzer test carried out on the driver was positive," reports the police. "The carport and both vehicles were totaled." In addition to the ambulance, police and helicopter, the St. Michael ob Bleiburg, Bleiburg, Feistritz ob Bleiburg and Loibach fire departments were also deployed. "In addition to the recovery and clean-up operations, the fire departments were tasked with supporting the rescue services in caring for the injured and illuminating the accident site and the landing site for the rescue helicopter," explained the St. Michael ob Bleiburg fire brigade.
