A 27-year-old cut through a training vehicle in Wels and then attacked the driving school instructor. The instructor was seriously injured, is now wearing a plaster cast and also needs an operation. The owner of the school denounces the fact that other drivers no longer have any patience with learners.

An L17 test drive in Wels was almost over on Monday afternoon when an Audi came in the opposite direction in the middle of the last intersection. "I had already warned my student: 'Watch out, he probably doesn't know what to do', and we drove slowly towards him," says driving instructor Christian Fuchs. "When we were only a few meters away from him, he suddenly turned left right in front of us and gave us the middle finger! I honked the horn, pointed at him and warned my learner driver about drivers like that."

Surgery even necessary
The Audi driver (27) then stopped abruptly, left his car at the junction with the door open and ran after the driving school car, which turned into the company's courtyard. There the argument escalated completely: "He was taller than me and swore at me, while I just asked him to leave the private yard," said the instructor. "Suddenly he pushed me backwards so hard with both hands that I broke my left radius in four places and now need an operation!" says Fuchs.

Stress-related epileptic seizure
Before the ambulance and police arrived, the 27-year-old Bosnian from Wels fled the scene. However, a police patrol found him at his home a short time later. When they wanted to take the man from Wels to the police station, he suddenly collapsed and was taken to hospital like his victim. He had suffered a stress-induced epileptic seizure, as has often been the case.

I appeal to all drivers to be more patient with learner drivers! Nowadays, many people see them as a nuisance.

"Unfortunately, this is not uncommon - the 'L' on the car no longer means anything, even if the learner driver hasn't made a mistake, as in this case," laments driving school boss Dragan Nedeljkovic. "There is a lot more traffic than 20 years ago, but respect and tolerance towards driving school cars is decreasing all the time. Every driver was once a novice and should know how stressful the first few trips are!"
