Illegal tent camps sprout from the ground

In Innsbruck-Arzl in particular, people are living in makeshift camps, which is prohibited under the camping law alone. Now the police and the city wanted to intervene, but there was a good reason for a delay.

Anyone who lives like this in the cold season is certainly not doing it voluntarily. But tents, mattresses, tarpaulins and all kinds of garbage are evidence that people at least spend the nights here. During the day, well into the evening, the "Krone" did not encounter any "inhabitants" of the makeshift camps. They are located, for example, below the Haller Straße overpass near the Grenobl bridge or in the bushes near the Siemens branch in the Mühlau-Arzl industrial estate.

"The situation has been getting worse recently"
An employee of the municipal department for green spaces recently did his rounds here and gasped: "The situation has been getting worse and worse recently." People in sleeping bags had already been noticed here in previous years. Now there are tents underneath the flyover, with the two lanes of Haller Straße running directly past to the left and right. According to reports, they are people from Eastern Europe, but possibly not only.

A car dealer with a direct view of the camp on Haller Straße attests to the people's inconspicuous behavior. It is, of course, unclear what they do for a living.

No offenses known, but wild camping prohibited
What do the police say? "The problem is known, but these people have not triggered any operations so far," they say when asked. However, it is clear that such camps are not permitted under the Tyrolean Camping Act alone. The police and the city's Mobile Monitoring Group (MÜG) therefore planned a major control operation for Thursday night. "We would have imposed an eviction deadline," explains Thomas Koland (MÜG). He assumes "15 to 20 people".

At the same time, police officers carried out a check in accordance with immigration law (illegal residence, etc.). Bad luck: Due to the bank robbery on Wednesday afternoon in the nearby Olympic Village and the subsequent manhunt, the "raid" was canceled for the time being. It is now to be rescheduled as soon as possible.
