Fire in Hard
96-year-old rescued from burning bungalow
An elderly homeowner was very lucky on Friday evening in the Lake Constance community of Hard. Thick clouds of smoke had formed after a stove had been fired up. Fortunately, he was able to call his son in time.
The 96-year-old had stoked up his tiled stove at around 5 p.m., and at around 7.40 p.m. he noticed the smell of smoke. The man immediately informed his son, who lives in the immediate vicinity. When he entered the bungalow, smoke was already billowing out of the bedroom and there was crackling in the partition walls. The son first got his father to safety and called the fire department. He then went to work himself with a fire extinguisher - but without much success.
The Hard local fire department ultimately needed an hour to extinguish the fire, and it was not until 8.48 pm that the "fire out" signal was given. The power supply was also switched off for the duration of the extinguishing work - it was switched on again at around 9.45 pm. The damage to property is likely to be considerable and investigations into the exact cause of the fire are ongoing.
