On a walk with his dog: man discovers bomb
While walking his dog on Wednesday afternoon, a man in Vienna-Ottakring discovered an object suspected of containing explosives in the Johann-Staud-Straße area. He immediately alerted the police. The war material had to be secured and removed.
During the operation, officers from the Ottakring municipal police command had to call in an explosives expert (SKO) from the Vienna Provincial Police Directorate. According to the police, the item found was probably a bomb base and detonator from an aerial bomb (see photo). "The war material was secured and removed", the Vienna police announced.
It will subsequently be handed over to the demining service of the Austrian Armed Forces.
The Vienna police also advise the following tips on what to do in such incidents:
- If you find objects suspected of containing explosives or war material, make a note of where you found them and move to a safe distance.
- Call 133 or 112 immediately.
- Do not move or manipulate objects suspected of containing explosives or war material.
