Dirk Stermann in conversation:
“My son Anton has already seen me cry”
On 2 and 9 March, cabaret artist Dirk Stermann (58) will be performing his first solo program "Zusammenbraut" at the Kulturzentrum Güssing. He spoke to the "Krone" about his late fatherhood, the idea of the ideal son-in-law and why he thinks it's silly when old men push baby carriages.
"Krone": Mr Stermann, your program "Zusammenbraut" is a wedding satire in which you play the father of the bride and rehearse the speech before the most beautiful day of your daughter's life. In the course of this, however, you notice that both the bride and groom and the guests are missing and that you are really only giving a speech to yourself - a speech to you as a raven father. What inspired you to come up with this idea? Wasit your guilty conscience towards your daughter Hannah (31) and your son Anton (8)?
Dirk Stermann: I was a much better father in real life than I am on stage. And I still am. The fact that I came up with the idea for the cabaret program was much more of a coincidence. I always wanted to write one on my own. One day, a photographer friend of mine sent me a photo of me that Grissemann and I had taken for a sketch. It showed us as Heinz and Margit Fischer at their wedding, with me dressed as the wife of the former Federal President. I was lying in a wedding dress on a glass plate in which my head was reflected. While I was having fun with this freaky bridal photo, I was standing in a dark, cloudy sky at Hamburg airport. The word "brewing" suddenly came to mind. Because I was working on my novel "Maksym" at the same time, which is about me as a father and my little fictional son, I decided to approach the subject of fatherhood in a humorous way. It's great fun to play a raven father. There must be a bit of a raven father in me too.
