Two-wheeler driver crashes into police car during escape
A scooter driver had a wild chase with the Vienna police on Thursday night. The 55-year-old ran several red lights and sped through the city at speeds of up to 130 km/h. It was only when he collided with a police car that his escape came to an end.
When the police tried to stop the man as part of a traffic check, he accelerated his motorcycle and sped off. Several police patrols took up the chase. The 55-year-old raced through the 20th district to Floridsdorfer Brücke, disregarding red lights, driving bans and other traffic regulations.
At the Neue Donau subway station, the man then crashed his scooter into a police car parked in the middle of the road. Although he crashed, he tried to continue his escape. He was arrested after massive resistance.
The 55-year-old had no driver's license and a small amount of narcotics was found on him and seized. He was charged with suspicion of resisting law enforcement, endangering physical safety and several traffic offenses. He suffered minor injuries as a result of the fall.
