Head-on crash in Tyrol leaves one seriously injured

A serious traffic accident in St. Johann in Tirol sent a 58-year-old man to hospital early on Tuesday morning. The driver had collided with the oncoming car of a 19-year-old on the Hochkönigstraße. The latter was under the influence of alcohol. 

The accident occurred on Tuesday on the Hochkönigstraße in the municipality of St. Johann, where the young local was driving towards Fieberbrunn at around 6.40 am. The 58-year-old Croatian was traveling in the opposite direction.

According to the police, a head-on collision then occurred for reasons that have not yet been clarified and the 58-year-old was seriously injured. He had to be freed from his car. After first aid by the emergency doctor, the ambulance took him to St. Johann Hospital. 

Alcohol test was positive
The 19-year-old was able to free himself from his car and, according to the police, apparently escaped with minor injuries. A breathalyzer test revealed that the local man was drunk: according to the police, he had more than 0.5, but less than 0.8 per mille alcohol in his blood. 

Both vehicles were totaled. Two employees from the road maintenance department were deployed to clear up the accident. There were also 20 members of the Fieberbrunn fire department, rescue and emergency medical teams and several police patrols at the scene.
