Woman seriously injured

Block of stone came loose and fatally hit hiker

The accident in Nassereith (Imst district), which occurred on Saturday, happened off a secured hiking trail. The injured 38-year-old was rescued by the Nassereith mountain rescue team and the emergency helicopter flew her to hospital.

At around 5.50 p.m., the local woman, her husband and their two dogs were hiking from Fernsteinsee in Nassereith on a steep path in the direction of the Sigmundsburg ruins. The accident happened on the ascent in the steep wooded area below the ruins - it is not an official access or hiking trail.

Hit on the thigh and upper body
For unknown reasons, a large block of stone came loose above the woman, fell onto the hiker and hit her on the right thigh and upper body. The woman suffered serious injuries.

Mountain rescue rescued the victim
The mountain rescue team from Nassereith rescued her and the emergency helicopter flew the injured woman to hospital in Zams. The husband was uninjured in the incident.
