Red Cross helpers brought man back to life

The fact that Reinhard Schuster can now also celebrate August 1 as his "second birthday" is thanks to five special people. An emergency call team and three first aiders joined forces to bring him back to life after his circulation stopped. 

Reinhard Schuster felt chest pains and shortness of breath in Mank in the district of Melk shortly after 7 pm. First Responder Johannes Haugensteiner was dispatched to the patient immediately after the emergency call, while the emergency helicopter was alerted at the same time.

Dramatic situation
As soon as the first responders arrived on the scene, Schuster suffered a circulatory arrest. Haugensteiner immediately began resuscitation with the help of Marlene Gallistl and Katharina Miksch - thanks to chest compressions and the use of a defibrillator, they brought the patient back to life.

Certificate commemorates saving a life
Reinhard Schuster has now recovered. He celebrated his second birthday with his lifesavers - Johannes Völk and Rebecca Cerny, who were on duty at the emergency call center that evening - at a dinner. The rescue team presented him with a certificate commemorating the fateful evening.
