Dispute over continued journey

German drunk driver went on the rampage during arrest

A car was apparently driving in serpentine lines on the Loferer Bundesstraße on Wednesday. During the subsequent police check, the driver, a 62-year-old German, was anything but cooperative. The official action culminated in an arrest, during which the man was slightly injured. 

At around 12.10 p.m. on Wednesday, officers from the Kufstein district police command noticed the conspicuous driving style of a car driving on the Loferer Bundesstraße in Ellmau. During a subsequent driver and vehicle check by officers from the Söll police station, the driver behaved increasingly aggressively towards the officers.

Driving was prohibited
As the man, a 62-year-old German, refused to take an alcohol test or undergo a medical examination for possible drug impairment, he was prohibited from continuing his journey and his vehicle keys were taken away.

Continued driving with a second key
At around 1 p.m., officers from the Söll police station discovered that the man had started or was driving the car with a second key. After the German refused to hand over this second vehicle key despite being forbidden to continue driving, he was arrested and put up a strong resistance.

The 62-year-old suffered a minor injury during the arrest. The German tested positive for alcohol. The public prosecutor's office in Innsbruck and the Kufstein police station have been charged.
