Why the digital euro is seen as a risk

If the European Central Bank (ECB) has its way, EU citizens will have another means of payment in addition to cash, debit and credit cards and various online payment services: the digital euro. However, experts are critical of it and warn of the risks.
Digital central bank money as a supplement to national currencies and competition for crypto money such as Bitcoin is being researched worldwide and, according to the ECB, should also be part of our everyday life in a few years' time. However, the "digital euro" is still a big unknown for most citizens - and experts also have doubts that the digital currency will catch on. Data protection and privacy may not be sufficiently guaranteed, they complain. Why this is the case.
