How Microsoft brings motionless images to life

Leonardo Da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" has been hanging in the Louvre in Paris since 1797. Motionless. Microsoft researchers have now breathed life into the famous oil painting. Videos (see below) show: The technology behind it is impressive, but also harbors great risks.

It is the major downside of the rapidly advancing digitalization: the rise in online crime. With the help of artificial intelligence, scams are becoming increasingly professional and in many cases almost impossible to see through. Deepfakes in particular, i.e. photos, videos or even audio files falsified using AI that make us believe, for example, that politician XY said or did this or that, are causing concern worldwide in the super election year of 2024.
