Fire department felled it
Tree had to be felled to recover glider
The good news first: a 74-year-old paraglider survived the "landing" on a spruce tree in the Mühlviertel without injury. The bad news: in order to recover the paraglider, the fire department had to cut down the tree.
A 74-year-old German took off with his paraglider from the Marsbach launch site in the municipality of Hofkirchen im Mühlkreis at around 2 p.m. on Sunday and wanted to land in Freizell near the Danube. During the flight phase, he turned the paraglider due to a tailwind. Suddenly, the right side of the glider collapsed and the 74-year-old landed on a spruce tree at a height of around twelve meters.
Emergency call made independently
He called the emergency services himself. The accident site was in extremely rough, steep terrain in the Donauleiten. In the end, he was rescued by the fire department's height rescue teams. The 74-year-old was not injured. A tree had to be felled by the fire department in order to recover the paraglider
