How to keep the little rodents in a species-appropriate way!

Alongside dogs, cats and rabbits, these small rodents are among the most popular pets among Austrians. But did you know that hamsters bite themselves to death when stressed and are therefore best kept alone? Or that cages should be avoided? The "Krone" has a few tips!

The sight of these cute little rodents makes many people weak at the knees. The cute cheek pouches in particular are typical of hamsters. They can stuff anything they don't want to eat into them. They are correspondingly stretchy. Unfortunately, a hamster - be it a golden, teddy or dwarf hamster - only lives for two to three years. This makes it all the more important to keep the animals in a species-appropriate way during this short time.
