Urinary tract infection: former Queen Sofía in hospital
According to media reports, Spain's former Queen Sofía has been taken to a hospital in the capital Madrid due to a urinary tract infection.
The 85-year-old is doing well under the circumstances and her recovery is well under way, the newspaper "El País", the news agency Europa Press and other Spanish media reported on Wednesday, citing a statement from the royal family.
Dismissal not yet confirmed
Sofia had attended a funeral in Madrid on Monday together with her husband, former King Juan Carlos. Such joint public appearances have been rather rare for years.
The royal family has emphasized that it is not yet clear when the mother of the current King Felipe VI will be able to leave the Ruber Internacional clinic and that this will depend on the progress of her recovery.
