New Volkshilfe project
Help for needy children up to the age of six
"Mit.Chancen.Wachsen" is intended for the children of families affected by poverty. The need is great.
The new development fund is intended to support families affected by poverty throughout Austria. Expenses for hygiene articles such as diapers, but also for baby food and clothing, which the little ones grow out of all too quickly anyway, as well as nursery equipment such as cribs, walking frames or bicycles are to be covered. The money from the fund is also to be used for childcare facilities or health-related expenses such as therapies, medication and the like.
Judith Ranftler, who helped set up the "Abolish child poverty" department at Volkshilfe Österreich, knows that the needs of young children are enormous. "Our social work with families in recent years has shown how enormous the need is, even among young children. We now want to provide even more targeted support for these children," she explains.
Burgenland's Volkshilfe President Verena Dunst also emphasizes how important early support for the youngest children is.
"Poverty has far-reaching effects on a child's life," says Dunst. "Especially in the first years of life. Growth, speech development, motor skills, play instinct, participation - many areas can be negatively affected. In order to prevent these developments as early as possible and thus as sustainably as possible, we at Volkshilfe are now also providing targeted support for babies and toddlers up to the age of 6."
And once again, Dunst asks: "Don't wait until it's too late! We can help quickly and mitigate the worst if families come to us in time!"
