Died at the scene of the accident
Cyclist (89) hit and killed by motorcycle
Dramatic scenes unfolded on the Kappeler Landesstraße in Carinthia on Sunday afternoon. An 89-year-old e-biker was hit and killed by a motorcyclist. The 51-year-old biker also had to be taken to hospital in Klagenfurt with serious injuries.
When crossing the Kappeler Landesstraße, the 89-year-old was probably overlooked by the motorcyclist. As a result, the two vehicles collided in the middle of the road. "Despite attempting to take evasive action, the motorcyclist was unable to avoid the collision and subsequently left the road on his motorcycle, crashed over the embankment and came to rest in the adjacent field," according to the provincial police headquarters.
Biker injured and taken to hospital
An eyewitness immediately alerted the emergency services. However, the emergency doctor was only able to determine that the 89-year-old cyclist had died. The 51-year-old biker also had to be treated by the emergency services and taken to hospital in Klagenfurt.
The Kappeler Landesstraße had to be closed to all traffic for the duration of the rescue and recovery operations and the accident investigation.
