A resident is said to have extinguished the fire in a garbage can and fridge in her apartment in Ried im Innkreis (Upper Austria) herself in the early hours of Friday morning, but suffered smoke inhalation in the process - she was taken to hospital by the ambulance service. The cause of the fire is still unclear.

At around seven in the morning on Friday, a caller reported smoke coming from a second-floor apartment in the city center! The head of the Ried im Innkreis fire department was then able to determine that there was indeed a fire and raised the alarm level.

Garbage can and fridge were on fire
A breathing apparatus unit of the Florianis moved into the affected apartment and, according to the incident report, found an already extinguished fire in a garbage can and a refrigerator. The occupant probably extinguished the fire herself and thus prevented worse - but suffered smoke inhalation in the process. The ambulance took the woman to hospital.

The fire department checked the affected area with thermal imaging cameras and ventilated the apartment and stairwell. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
