Violence in the delivery room: “I became an accomplice!”
Every second woman giving birth is a victim of psychological or physical violence in the delivery room, perpetrated by obstetric staff. Eva Placzek is a midwife and says: "I used to be an accomplice." She wants to draw attention to this taboo subject and empower women.
More and more women are daring to talk about a taboo subject: Experiences of violence that they had to go through during the birth of one or more children - like Anna (27) from Lower Austria in the second part of this Krone+ series. Some of the experiences of women giving birth are traumatic: from fear-mongering, humiliation, unnecessary examinations and interventions to abuse of power by midwives and doctors. The violence in obstetrics is often particularly subtle.
