"Anyone who regularly finishes in the top 10 in the World Cup earns quite well. But it really pours in for those who regularly finish on the podium," Co-CEO of the Swiss Ski Association Diego Züger told Blick.

After the next two Ski World Cup weekends, there won't be a ski fan in Glemmtal who doesn't know the Swiss anthem. Lara Gut-Behrami and Marco Odermatt could sing along to "Wenn der Alpenfirn sich rötet" four times each when the large and small crystal globes are awarded for the individual rankings. The only winners from other nations are Mikaela Shiffrin and Manuel Feller in the slalom.

Odermatt has stood on the podium 20 times this year, including 13 victories. Gut-Behrami celebrated 16 podium places this year, triumphing eight times. Undoubtedly a dream winter for both of them.

Around three million euros in prize money, outfitters and sponsors
This is also reflected in the prize money. Odermatt collected a total of 836,485 euros in prize money. In comparison: slalom globe winner Manuel Feller received 304,697 euros before the World Cup final. However, most of the money usually comes from their own supplier and main sponsor (usually the athletes' head sponsor). According to Blick, Odermatt will receive around three million euros this year, including prize money. The dominator is said to have around 20 sponsors in his portfolio. Social media also plays a major role in this. "Marco also delivers off the slopes. We often have very long-term contracts. That pays off in the end and provides planning security. Marco has a stable house of sponsors," explained his manager Michael Schiendorfer.

One million less
Odermatt's Swiss colleague Gut-Behrami, on the other hand, does without social media. "Lara is also giving up a lot of money," said Züger: "But she has decided to do so because it suits her better - that has to be respected." But she doesn't have to go hungry either. She has already collected 588,352 euros in prize money this year. Compared to Odermatt, however, she has significantly fewer sponsors and, according to insiders, has a total of around two million euros this winter.
