Mother and child healthy
Pilot steps in as midwife in the middle of a flight
The middle of a flight is probably the worst time to go into labor. This is what happened to a woman on her way from Taipei (Taiwan) to Bangkok (Thailand). The pilot acted quickly and helped the pregnant woman deliver her daughter at high altitude.
The incident had already occurred on Friday last week. When the passenger went into labor, it quickly became clear that the child would be born during the four-hour flight. The pilot of the Airbus A320, Jakarin Sararnrakskul, left the controls to his co-pilot to assist with the birth.
The captain managed to calm the expectant mother, who then gave birth to a healthy baby girl. "This is the first time I have given birth to a baby in my 18 years of flying," Sararnrakskul explained afterwards. The pilot is also the father of a child.
Birth will be a funny anecdote for girls
"He will be able to tell everyone for the rest of his life that he was born in the air," the captain is convinced that the unusual birth will become a funny anecdote for the child. "I'm so proud that I was able to help bring him into the world." His co-pilot and all-female crew were incredible, the captain emphasized.
Paramedics finally welcomed the new mother and her daughter at the airport. Fortunately, the medics found that both were in good health. The newborn was appropriately nicknamed "Heaven".
