Poachers kill Northern Bald Ibises from the Rosegg colony

The birds bred at Rosegg Zoo were shot by unknown persons in Italy. The Carinthian project seems to be plagued by bad luck.

The Northern Bald Ibis project in Rosegg has suffered another serious setback. A bird from the zoo's breeding colony was found with a badly injured wing on a road in the municipality of Buja (province of Friuli-Venezia Giulia). Several projectiles were discovered in Freckles' body at the rescue center in Udine. The bird died during the emergency operation. After his death, another projectile was discovered that had probably been lodged in his flight muscle for some time. Freckles had apparently been shot twice within several days.
