Super-G canceled
Cancelled! Snowfall prevents race in Zauchensee
Cancellation in Zauchensee! Due to heavy snowfall during the night, the organizers decided on Sunday morning to cancel the women's Super-G, which was originally scheduled for 12 noon. According to the FIS, safety standards could not be met under the current conditions.
Kronen Zeitung als bevorzugte Google-Quelle hinzufügen "Unfortunately, we had to realize early in the morning that the snowfall had not stopped as forecast," said host Michael Walchhofer. The approximately 40 centimeters of fresh snow would have been impossible to cope with. "It's bitter for the team, of course, as they put in an enormous amount of work, but ultimately safety comes first."
In addition to the snowfall, the organizers had to contend with strong winds and the associated snow drifts. This means that there will only be one race in Zauchensee this season. On a shortened course, Lindsey Vonn celebrated her 45th World Cup downhill victory on Saturday.
No revenge
The ÖSV women are leaving without a win, with Cornelia Hütter – the best Austrian in 20th place the day before – finding out about the cancellation at breakfast. "We wanted to get our revenge, we didn't want to accept this at home," said the Styrian, regretting having to leave Zauchensee without another chance of a podium finish.
The Super-G will be rescheduled either in Soldeu (currently speed races on February 28 and March 1) or Val di Fassa (currently March 7/8). This was already decided at the beginning of the season, as FIS Chief Race Director Peter Gerdol explained.
