Vienna Central Station evacuated due to threat situation

Threat situation at Vienna Central Station: A major police operation was underway there late on Monday afternoon. Train services were not possible and the associated U1 station was also closed. The public was asked to avoid the area. The all-clear was not given until around 6 pm. 

Following an incoming threat, Vienna Central Station was cleared by the police on Monday afternoon. "We are on site with several forces and are clarifying the situation," said the police. Explosives checks were also carried out by dogs. However, the police did not want to give any information about the sender of the threatening email.

However, people were asked to avoid the area and nearby traffic routes so that the emergency services could work. The all-clear was finally given at around 6 p.m.: the search was negative.  

Expect delays
During the large-scale police operation, train services were also not possible at this time. A rail replacement service was set up between Vienna-Liesing and Siebenhirten (U6). The U1 station Südtirolerplatz - Hauptbahnhof was also closed. Trains have now returned to the main station. However, ÖBB points out: "Please continue to expect delays and train cancellations." The evacuation of the station went smoothly.
