No to referendum

State government remains stubborn on long-distance pass package

The government's plans for the Fernpass have met with little approval from the neighboring communities. Several attempts to hold referendums have failed due to resistance from the black-red coalition, most recently in the state parliament. The Transit Forum warns of the danger of a new truck route through the already troubled Tyrol. 

"Black-Red does not want to hear the people's opinion": this is how Green Party leader Gebi Mair interprets the rejection of his motion in the state parliament for a referendum on the summit tunnel on the Fernpass - "although it was formulated in a completely neutral way, without any agitation", as Mair emphasizes.
