Do-it-yourself traps: How to reduce the value of your home
There's no place like home - and to keep it that way, property owners often invest energy and, above all, money in sprucing up their own home. However, not everything you like will necessarily increase the value of your own four walls. In the worst case, some do-it-yourself work can even have a negative impact on the selling price.
A new coat of paint here, a new floor there and a small opening between the kitchen and living room: there are many ways to improve your home. However, there are also risks of making mistakes - which can be particularly disadvantageous if the DIY work is not only associated with the desire for change, but also a potential increase in value in order to sell the house or apartment at a later date for as much profit as possible.
With this in mind, you should refrain from the following do-it-yourself measures - they may not pay off in the end.
