On the night of January 6th, the people of Heiligenblut wait for their carol singers, for the blessing, the centuries-old songs that the men sing and play - only during the world wars did women also deliver the message. 

While girls and boys, as carol singers, bring the message of Christ's birth and charity into homes and collect donations for people who are less fortunate, adults also go from house to house singing the blessing in accordance with centuries-old tradition.

"I was 13 years old when I was in a gang. I only went halfway," says Georg Bernhardt. In Heiligenblut, all inhabited houses are visited, which takes place on the night of January 6th from 4 pm until around 8 am.
