Sleeping woman set on fire in subway – dead!

On Sunday, a sleeping woman was set on fire by a man in the New York subway. The perpetrator, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala named Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, is said to have calmly watched as the woman burned to death.

According to the police, Amelia Carter had been traveling on an F train in the Brooklyn borough at the weekend when the crime took place. She probably dozed off during the journey.

Sebastian Zapeta-Calil is said to have approached the sleeping woman and set fire to her clothes with a lighter at around 7.30 in the morning. The woman was engulfed in flames within a few seconds, reports New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch (43).

Emergency services noticed the smoke and quickly extinguished the flames in the train car, but the woman was pronounced dead on the spot. 

Perpetrator faces murder charges
Zapeta-Calil is said to have calmly watched the incident from a bench. He comes from Guatemala and is said to have entered the USA illegally a few years ago. He last lived in a homeless facility for people with addiction problems. It is completely unclear why he committed the crime. He is charged with murder (see video above).

Karoline Leavitt (27), spokeswoman for US President-elect Donald Trump (78), wrote on X (see post above): "28 days until mass deportations begin. Hallelujah."

During the winter, many homeless people use the subway system to escape the cold. Currently, temperatures in New York are freezing at night, reaching minus ten degrees.
