Why the city of Vienna is buying the Austria stadium

The fact that Vienna City Hall wants to buy Austria's stadium is supposed to guarantee the future of the Violets in the city. But the multi-million investment has its risks and could boomerang - and also fuel the club's internal dispute over direction. 

For Wiener Austria, it was a race against time: if the long-sought buyer for the Generali-Arena had not been found soon, the debt burden might have put an end to the club. The construction of the new stadium six years ago was mainly financed by loans of 45 million euros.
