Court dries up water park

Because Lake Klopeiner See is already suffering from intensive tourism, there is no permit for a children's play raft. Now the water park is being drained. 

Of all things, a water park for children has become a legal bone of contention on Lake Klopein! For five years, the municipality of St. Kanzian fought for permission for a raft of less than 200 square meters on concrete pillars to be used as a play area.

Buildings would be detrimental
However, the Völkermarkt district authority had reservations - which are now also shared by the Carinthian Provincial Administrative Court and the Administrative Court in Vienna. The "intensive tourist use" had already led to an alarming decline in reed and aquatic plant populations; the riparian vegetation was now only "relictual". Even the smallest obstructions would damage Lake Klopein even more, according to the findings.
