Google pumps 3.3 billion dollars into new data centers

AI research requires computing power: Google parent company Alphabet has therefore announced the construction of two new data centers in the US state of South Carolina.

Group CEO Sundar Pichai explained on Thursday that 3.3 billion dollars will be invested in this. According to the South Carolina government, Google's parent company plans to build a data center in Dorchester County.

The second is an expansion of the existing center in Berkeley County. The search engine operator is expanding its infrastructure with investments, among other things to drive forward development in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Google is not the only IT giant that is expanding its data centers in light of the boom in AI tools. Microsoft and Amazon are also investing billions of US dollars in computing capacity.

One of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom is the chip company Nvidia, whose high-performance processors are currently considered the best solution for training AI models. However, other chip companies such as Micron, which manufactures particularly fast RAM for AI applications, have also recently reported record profits.
