Difficult rescue

Two Nepalese were trapped in a material ropeway

Strong winds caused the suspension cable of a material ropeway in Obersulzbachtal (Hohe Tauern) to jump out of its guide. As a result, two Nepalese had to wait for hours at a height of 30 meters in the open cabin before they could finally be freed from the difficult situation by the mountain rescue team. 

In the early afternoon hours on Saturday, two employees of an Alpine Club hut in Obersulzbachtal (Hohe Tauern) found themselves in an alpine emergency. The two Nepalese nationals were traveling in an open cabin of a material ropeway when the suspension rope suddenly jumped out of the guide due to the strong wind.

The cabin was around 300 meters away from the valley station and was over 30 meters high. This is why the mountain rescue team had to be called and ten men went to the scene. Due to the fresh snow, the rescue was only possible under difficult conditions. However, the two were rescued unharmed from the cabin of the material ropeway in the early evening hours.
