Mpox & Co.: When animals make people ill

Rabies and Mpox - formerly known as monkeypox - are just two examples of animal-human infections, known as zoonoses. Africa could become a new hotspot for them. The reasons, the impending dangers and a mega-project in the tropics, the findings of which could perhaps even prevent such infections in future.

On Wednesday, the World Health Organization declared the highest alert level due to several Mpox outbreaks in Africa and the new, potentially more dangerous variant - just one day later, Sweden's government reported the first confirmed case of the new variant outside the African continent.
