Valuable vintage car goes up in flames in tunnel

This must be very painful for the Swiss owner! A classic car went up in flames in a tunnel on the Spisser Landesstraße in Tyrol on Saturday morning. The firefighting operation proved difficult for the fire departments. 

Shortly before 9 a.m., the 79-year-old Swiss man and his historic vehicle were in the middle of the 75-metre-long road tunnel when flames burst out of the rear of the car. The driver left the tunnel in a hurry and raised the alarm. 

Heavy smoke made recovery difficult
In the meantime, the fire had already spread to the entire vehicle. The Spiss, Samnaun and Pfunds fire departments were able to bring the fire under control quickly, but the heavy smoke made it difficult to recover the vehicle. Cleaning the road, which was heavily soiled by the fire, was also time-consuming.  

The Spisser Landesstraße had to be closed for almost two hours due to the operation and traffic had to be diverted. The police are not yet able to estimate the extent of the damage caused. Fortunately, no one was injured.
