Severe storms threaten: second-highest warning!

It could get very turbulent in Tyrol over the course of Wednesday. GeoSphere Austria has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of the province (warning level "orange", level 3 of 4)! Heavy rain, hail and squalls could lead to damage and dangerous scenes.

The warning applies from the afternoon and then into the evening. According to current forecasts, heavy thunderstorms are possible in all parts of the country.

"Heavy rain is to be expected, especially in the central Innsbruck area including the Wipptal and in the districts in the Unterland. According to the forecasts, individual stormy gusts or small hailstorms are also possible," reads a statement from the province.

Particular caution is advised, especially in the mountains, but also at lakes and swimming pools.

There could be lightning strikes, mudslides and local outbursts. "Special caution is required in the mountains in particular, but also at lakes and in swimming pools. Therefore, keep a close eye on local weather developments and react accordingly, for example by seeking shelter early," emphasizes Elmar Rizzoli, Head of the Tyrolean Centre for Crisis and Disaster Management.

Caution in road traffic
Increased caution is particularly advisable in road traffic. Possible dangers include falling branches, falling trees and aquaplaning.
