Police stop heavily intoxicated truck driver

A 63-year-old Italian man got behind the wheel of a heavy goods vehicle in a drunken stupor and was driving in this condition on the Inntal highway in Tyrol. The man was virtually taken off the road.

Officers at the Radfeld checkpoint on the Inntal freeway took a close look at trucks on Monday morning. Among them was an articulated truck driven by a 63-year-old Italian.

Astonishment at the breathalyzer test
The officers carried out an alcohol test on the man and were astonished at the result. The Italian was heavily intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level of more than 1.8 per mille.

Driving license confiscated
The man's driver's license was confiscated on the spot and he was forbidden to continue driving. The officers also confiscated a security deposit.
