Rising rents and wild purchase prices: Young Salzburg residents spoke to the "Krone" about their tough housing situation.

Niels, 26, a native of Kassel and psychology student, has made friends with Salzburg: "I can imagine staying if it's compatible with my job later on." However, the two flatmates lack the imagination to realize this.

His goal of a "little house in the suburbs" can hardly be achieved for less than half a million euros. You'd have to budget for a seven-figure sum: "That makes me feel dissatisfied. There is already far too little on offer on the shared flat market. I keep hearing that the vacancy rate in the city is making the situation worse." Matyas is even deeper into the Salzburg real estate market - and even more frustrated.
