According to her own account, Oscar winner Laura Dern was once thrown out of university just a few days after starting her studies. But her revenge on the "culprits" is all the sweeter from today's perspective.

 "I was 17 and so excited to come to UCLA," the now 57-year-old reported in the podcast "Where Everybody Knows Your Name". After just two days at the University of California in Los Angeles - UCLA for short - she was offered a role in David Lynch's psychological thriller "Blue Velvet". "I was over the moon," said Dern.

However, several contacts at the university rejected her request for a leave of absence to shoot the film, Dern reported.

"No longer welcome"
She had even given the script for the thriller to the head of film studies. He told her the next day that she would no longer be welcome at UCLA if she decided to shoot the movie. The professor then added: "After reading the script, it's crazy that you would give up your college education for this," Dern recounted.

"Blue Velvet" brought Dern greater fame and has since achieved cult status. As the actress mischievously pointed out, the film is also now taught at her former university. You can't imagine a sweeter revenge in life ...
