Insect bite: Worker found dead on construction site

Unfortunate drama on a construction site in south-eastern Styria: a worker from Burgenland (43) was found dead on Wednesday afternoon. He had probably been stung by an insect. Immediate first aid measures were unable to save the man from Burgenland.

The worker was probably stung by a bee or wasp and had a severe allergic reaction. The man had previously been carrying out basement sealing work alone on a private building site in a remote building shell. When the homeowner came to the building site at around 2 p.m., he found the 43-year-old lying on the ground, lifeless and not breathing.

Resuscitation measures were futile
Together with another professional, the building owner immediately initiated resuscitation measures, which were subsequently taken over by the emergency services and an emergency doctor from the C12 rescue helicopter. Despite one and a half hours of first aid measures, however, the 43-year-old could only be pronounced dead.

EpiPen found next to worker
An empty auto-injector (EpiPen) was found next to the lifeless person. As it turned out, the man from Burgenland had already required intensive medical care in the past following an anaphylactic shock. There were no indications of any outside culpability.
