Two fire departments had to be deployed to Velden Bay on Tuesday afternoon. A boat went up in flames in front of the Schlosshotel Velden for unknown reasons. Two men were injured.

While numerous vacation guests were strolling through the popular Carinthian tourist resort, clouds of smoke suddenly rose from the stern of a boat and the first flames soon engulfed the vessel. Two men, aged 18 and 27, tried to extinguish the fire with hand-held fire extinguishers. However, they were unsuccessful.

According to "Krone" information, the boat was quickly removed from the jetty so that no other boats were in danger. The 51-year-old operator of the rental company used another boat for this purpose.

"The Velden and Augsdorf fire departments were alerted immediately," said the regional alarm and warning center.

They were able to extinguish the fire after a short time. The two men who had previously tried to do so were taken to Villach Regional Hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The police and fire department were also deployed with two boats. The damage amounts to several tens of thousands of euros.
